Leveller
Although things have begun to change in recent years, Hollywood is still notorious for it’s lack of diversity, both in front of and behind the camera. And one major reason for that is the way projects get financed. Big studios are largely white and male dominated, creating a bias toward filmmakers, casts, and stories.
Leveller is trying to change that by combining crowd investment with a decentralized, digital currency. Their team brought me in to do some initial branding work that would help secure funding and inform the product design.
The name comes from a political movement during the English Civil war that stood for social reform. We wanted to take that idea of leveling the playing field and create a contemporary identity, one that stood out from more traditional media and production companies. The brand had to work in both tech and entertainment, and it had to appeal to investors, creators, and their audiences.
The platform is still in Development, but I dig how the brand came together. and it looks like seed funding is lined up, so there should be more to come.
